The history of the “Löwen” - the former Löwenbrauerei Bregenz - goes back several hundred years. Originally it only consisted of the storage cellar with its thick stone walls, used for the cool storage of beer. It was only at the beginning of the last century that the “Golden Lion Brewery” was built on the existing cellar vaults with the now familiar and characteristic Art Nouveau building. Through the gentle revitalization, the existing building structure was redesigned and the historical jewel was given a contemporary use. The official classification as a building worth preserving meant that the original character of the main building, including the tower, had to be preserved. For the sake of the original look, the external walls were not insulated at all. Instead of automatic roller blinds, wooden shutters were used to match the Art Nouveau facade.

In addition to the facade being preserved, the historic masonry has also been preserved, giving the newly built eleven residential units a very special ambiance. The biggest challenge of converting the brewery to residential use were the numerous additions over the last forty years. The variation of levels had to be taken into account when combining rooms into new residential units. Old additions were partially removed or replaced with small bay windows and additional balconies. Old iron beams as parts of the vaults were kept in place.
